24 The excelìencyofthe right eoufneffëofSamEfificatlon, in he place God bath fet it in ; But if a mans body be ditlem- pered through licknetfe and weaknetle, then he can neither work n+ar relish any thing, nor injoy himfelf in any thing that he hash, and therefore it is that man defires health above all outward bleaings, what is it for a rich man to have wealth, and a great eflate, and not to have health ; whit is it to a man to' have honours and preferments, ro have friends, and all the dé- -lights this world can afford, when as he doth not enjoy hinlfelf in thole things : Now fin, iris the ditlemper of the foul, that which puts the foul out of tall, and takes away the excellency of all . it doth enjoy : Therefore it is fo oft in Scripture compared unto things that are the moll loathfome ; Nov when grace comes into the h .art, it prevailes againfi all the ill humours of the foul, -and brings health into the fpirit, it makes the foule healthful! and baile in the fervice of God. Secondly,This righteoufnefle is a fpark of the Divi e nature, that expreilìon we have in z Pet. T. 14. whereby "iven to us exceeding great and precious promifes, that- by thefeyöu might be partakers ofthe divine nature ; Grace and rtghteoufnz % is all one, & 'tis nothing elle but a fparkling of the divine nature that is in God.himfelf, and the foul that undertiands what this is, how can it but long after ir, it fees a greater glory, and a more worth in the lead fpark of this excellency, then in all the glory of the world reprefenred unto it in the moll taking atid'beautifull fhewthat can be, the foul by this comes to live even as God himfelfe doth, and is not this very del rea- ble. Thirdly, It is the very Image of God in the foul, and an Image reprefents a thing in the chief excellency of it ; As the image or pieture of a man, it doth not reprefent the leggs anti the feet of the man, which are the inferiour parts, but his coun- tenance, his face, the image of a man it is reprefented by his face which is the glory of the man, or the head ; So Gods I- mage in us is this rigbteoufneffe, inherent grace, the creatures have the footileps of God upon them, in all the creatures that are in the world we may there behold fo many footftcps of God
