Incourragement to thole that hunger. hunger we fhould give him meat, and if he thirft we fhould give him drink, Rom: i z. zo. This is the charge of God ; will the Lord give a charge to us poore creatures, that when our e- nemy hungers we muff give our enemy meat, and when our e- nemy thirlls, give him drink, and shall not God himfelf, the in- finite fountain of all mercy. When a child hungers give meat, and when a child thirfls give drink, faith Chrifl, If yrore that are evill know how to give good things to your children, how much more all your heavenly father, &c. The Lörd will much more do it to the foule that defires above all things in the world to be reconciled to him; Eightly, Be of comfort in this, you that are hungerers and thirffers, thefe hungrings and thirflings of yours will make you to be prayin&Chriflians, they are mighty ingredients in prayer, and it's a very'great blellïng to be a praying Chriftian,efpecial- ly in thefe times, there are no fuch praying Chriflians, as your hungring and thirfling Chriftians, that find the want of the righteoufneffe both of the Son of God, and the Spirit of God. Thefe are great prayers in Ifrael, wehave many that will en- large themfelves to God in prayer, but for a prayer to come from an hungring and thirfling foule , it's a prayer worth a hundred of thofe prayers that come from parts and me- mory. Ninthly, Know further,That the ordinances of Jefus Chrift are appointed to thee. There is a time when Jefus Chrift will fatisfie thy foule immediately, till the time comes he bath appointed his Ordinances, his Word and Sacraments, for the fatisfying thefe'hunnringand thirfling foules, and comfort thy felfe in this, O bided Saviour I hope to have full communion with thee hereafter, but for the prefent thou haft.not left me deft deftitute, and I'le take what thou haft left me thankfully for the prePent, expelling a more immediate fatisfaaion from tbee
