370 The excellency bf this grace of noercifalnefs; aprofe{live fubje6lion to the Gofpel, viz: that whereas the Lord hath reveal'd in infinite mercy the Gofpel of his Son je- fus Chrifl unto you, an expects that all you fhould come and fubjeCt your selves to this Gofpel; and make a profe(liion that you do do it ; this is one thing wherein you fhould do it, thus- Lord, here we declare that the mercy which we have found from thee in thy Glorious Gofpel, it takes off our hearts front all things in the world, and inlarges our hearts towards others that are in mifery, in this Lord we manifeft our profeflive fub- je6lion to thy Gofpel, and you (hall find there is nothing Both more take off the hearts of men from fcraping after the world, then the knowledg of the Gofpel ofChrift:& as loon as ever 4ve find in Scripture that the Gofpel had brought any into fubjec- tion to it, they prefently were ready, and willing to difiribute any Thing that they had to the neceifìity of the Saints, that's the fecund Commendation, The profefled fubje&ion unto the Gòfpel. Thirdly, It is call'd the exceeding grace of Gcd,and that you have in the 14 ver: of this 2 Cor: 9. The Apofile there cant it the exceeding grace of God, becaufe the Lord was pleafed to melt their hearts towards others, and inlarge their bowels towards others, the Apoffle was fa affeed with ir, that .he faith,'tis the exceeding grace of God, this we look upcm as the exceeding grace of Gcd, more then the ordinary grace of God. The fourth Commendation is this, it is call'd the unfpealz able gift, and that you have in the laft verfe, the unspeakable gift, faith the 'Apatite, that God fhould thus inlarge your hearts in mercy towards others; Here's a gift of God, you give to others that that he gives you, a heart to be mercifull unto others' this is the unfpeakable gift ofGod. The fifth expreflion from Scripture, is this, it is calla a fweet fmel, and that in the 4 Phil: 18, An odour of a fweet finel, you that would have your houles fweet, you May have them perfutn'd thus, it's the bet+ perfume in the world, great folks will have their frankin'.ence to perfume their houles, and Would you,have yours tmel tweet, perfume them with the works
