curled thing indeed ; You will fay, Who cloth thus ? who is the man, or where is he that will do this ? fubjeet the Worthip of God to his bate Tufts 1 To that I anfwer, Whofoever doth make ufe of any duty of Worfhip, as Prayer, Hearing the Word, or what ever it be, to cloak any kind of wickednels, whofoever is confcious to himfelf of any kindof fecrec wicked- nefs, and yet fhall think to cover it by the performance of du- ties, and fhall reafon in this manner, Who will think me to be guilty of fuch a vile thing, when I pray fo as I do, and am to careful tohear the Word ? and I hope I fhall cover Lome wick- ednefs this way. What a damnable thing is it then to make ufe of any duty of Gods Worfhip, fometimes extraordinary Worship, as Fatting andPrayer, to be a cloak to cover their wickednefs I Thou arc fo far from fanetifying Gods Name, that thou polluteft Gods Name; thoudoeft what in thee lies for to raft even dirt in the faceof God himfelf chat doeft fo. The fecond bale end, is to fubjeet the duties of Gods Wm- fhip to thepraite of men, as to perform duties of Gods Wor- fhip for efteem of men, and becaufe we fhall be well thought of ; take heed of this you yong ones, and others, you would fain beelleerii'd well ofs by thofe that you live withal ; It is a deferable thing to have a good efteem from thofe that are God- ly ; bur takeheed that you do not fubjed the duties of Gods Worfhip to this.
