The Repofitory inwhich this Treafure is laid up., The Depolitorn , or thing laid up, which is a Treafure; and whatjs this Treafure, but the Gospel of Jefus Chrifk ? The Gofpel is a Treafure according to a two -fold contideration Matter In refpe61 of the of- 2. Miniftry Both make up a Treafure. The Matter of it, the things of the Gofpel are rich things, andthe conveyances of it 3 che_ Minifterial gift3 andability, by which the Gofpel is sidminiftred, do make up the Treafure 'T is a treafure in both refpeas.. 1. In refpeet of the matter of it ; Therefore it is we read of the Riches of Christ, of the Riches of the Gofpel. The Scripturemkes mention of three things wherein the Gofpel is agreeable to a ,trea- fure. 2. ATreafure is a thing ofdignity and worth ; 'cis not a company of pebbles ( though many ) that will make up a Treafure ; a Trea- fure confilts of things of worth and dignity : and thus is the Gofpel: in it are contained excellent and admirable truths, the Mytteries of falvation by Chrift ; the doarine of the Gofpel brings glad tyding-s of peaceand rectnciliation with God in Chriit : there we have the gifts ic and graces of God , there we haVeglory and iminort4ty, &c. and thofe things in the Gofpel areadminiitred to us : there is no fci- ence in the world brings fuch treafure as this. 2. The Gaped is a treafure for variety, abundance, and plurality. 'Tis not one thing of worth, but many that makes up a'treafure if few , yet much worth mutt be comprehended in them ; fo in the gofpel we have the manifold wifdom of cod, the rich Treafizes of Wifdome and Knowledge. The gofpel, though it be but one for fubftance, yet 'tis many for improvements; 'tis a chain of many links, one faith, but divers articles ofit; fo it is a treafure in chatrefpea. _ '3. 'Tis a treafure for its clofeneffe ; We do not open a trea- fure toevery one, but it is kept clofe. The gofpel is a-fecret iiayfte- ry, hidden, not revealed to every one: it isnot difcovered to car- nal worldly men, though it may be revealed to them in the outward propattioti, yetnot,in the, fpirituality of it .
