362. Mr. Beerman's Farervel Sermon, Aug. 17. on, made fuch ufe of his time wherein he reigned as King, that byhis provident living, he heaped up fo much trealure, and fent it before him to t.';e place where he knew he fhould be fent, as maintained him all his life-time. Thus it is, God bath appointed to every one a time to live in , and that but a Ihort time too , and in that time be bath appointed affliaions to attend us; if we will live godly in. Chrilt jefiri, is it not wifdom in us then to provide for them ? Take heed Len that to avoid liiffering, you do not commit tin; to-commit tin, to avoid fufferUlg, is as if a man thould run out of the mouth of a barking Dogl,Y , into toe mouth of a devourin5 ° Lion what is the wrath ''of man to tile wrath ofGod ? Man can but dedroy tiebody, and no more, but God can deltroy both body and, foul into hell fire to all eternity. Fourthly, My fourth wordof counfel, and direCtion is this, be fe- rjoni in ferious things ; when youcome to perform ferious thing them ierioully; Ido not know that ever I faw a man fall a fleep while he was tellingof mony, for if he fhould, how could he tell whether it were right or no ? Yet alas I too too many fleep when they Mould he taking truth, not only by natural fleep, but alto by fpiritual fleep; they are fo careleffe in receiving the word ,. they hear , and fo lazy withal, that rather toen they will try the word they hear , t ey will take all for truth their Minifters tell them. Beloved, I believe you will fcarce put fo much confidence in a man , as to receive a fum of money without telling it , Lecaufe he fa:th it is right ; and yet will you receive all that your Min,fter tells you is truth, for truth , with- out trying it ? you mutt not be fluggifh in your working for God but put forth your felves to the uttermost. You mult make the Kingdome of Heaven fuffer violence , and take it by force , but then, Fifthly , The fifth Direction which I shall give you , is about hearing theword, how you mutt behave your felves wlen you hear. I take it for granted you will hear, I hope you will, for brown bread is Letter then none, and a little is better then none at all ; yet 1 in- treat you take tilde two words of Direction Fiat, Try the word you hear by the Truth. Secondly, Try your felves by the Truth. FALTry toe word you hear bye.e Truth; if it be not confonant to that, believe it not, let woo will preach it, Paul exhorteth the Ga- h, tans fo to do ( Chap. a. 8, 9. ). But though lye or an Angel from Heaven preachany other DoFtri,,!e unto you , than that which we have preached anti, 7ou,let him be occurred How , Paul accurfed ? fore you fpeak toohigh what if anAngel ? mutt he J:,e accurfei. ?
