December 28, 1662. 373 him to hisTryal inmourning, thereoy to fhew their love to the party in danger. Now didyou love the Gofpel, the Minitiers of the Gofpel, and the Ordinances of Chrift, you would all put on mourning, and lament for the Gofpel, the Arkof God that is in danger; and becaufe you donot, it is a lign you have no love to the Gofpel. Secondly, It is a lign you have no intereft in the Gofpel , for in- tereft will air up your affections ; it is a fign you are not concerned in the Gofpel, lot if you were concerned in it, you would be affe&ed with it , as thole that were interetled in thole perfons that were in that lamentable fire the laft week, It is impoffible but they fhould be affected; and fo it is a fign youhave no intereft in God and Cnrifi, if your hearts do not tremble for fear of the lofs of the Ark. But Thirdly, There is a curfeof God pronounced aga'n'l all thole that do not lay to heart the afilielions ochreph,Amos6. ,?33 Woe be to them that are at cafe in Sion , and truft in the t_Alounrainof Samaria : yea, that put far away the evil day; that lye upon beds of Ivo 71, and itretch thensfeltres upon their Couches; that eat ti.ie Lambs out of thepck, and the Calves out ofthe mid!? of the flall;that chant to the found ofthe Viol, and invent to thensfelves Infir menu ofc_Alssfick; that drink wine in bowler , and 410;4 themfelves with the cis:if eyntmtnts but they are not grieved for the alp-lions of Jorepb. Woe be unto you that enjoy your fulnefs of outward things, and make merry therewith, and never confider the ailliaions of Gods people , and the danger of the Ark. V fe z. For Exhortations To befeech you all, that God by a pro-' vidence bath fo unexpe9edly brought this day to hear me, and there may be a good providence in it , poffibly I may do good herein ; I fay, let me befeech you all to declare youare the people of God in- deed and in truth, by following the example of old Ely , to be ver y folicitous of the Ark of God ; and let me exhort you to five parti- culars. Fir% Let me perfwade you-to believe, that the Gofpel is not en- tailed upon England : England bath no Letters Pitents of the Gor- Tei ; the Gofpel is retnoveable : God took away the Ark , and 'for- look Shit(' ; and he did not only take away the Ark, but the Temple alfo; he unchurched the Jews, he unchurched the feven Churches of Afia, and we know not how loon he may unchurch us : I know no warrant we have to think that we fhall have the Gofpel another hut-- dred years ; God knows how to remove his Candlewick , but not to deutroy it; God doth often remove the Church, but doth not dearoy it; God renovel his Church out of the Eaft, as the Greek Churches sve'e ramous Churches, but God removed them. and now t h lurk over-fpreads that Country.
