We render the fit-ft word of this verfe by that caufall parti- cle, For ; yet becaufe the text Both not ífri&iy carry a reafon in it of what was faydbefore, but is rather an explication or anac- commodation of it ; therefore fome begin the verfe, not with that caufall particle For , but with an adverb of time , when. So Me Broughton when the omnipotent fpeaketh once, &c. And the reafon of it is, becaufe we find another adverb of tifiie anfwering this at the 16th verfe, when Godfpeaketh once or twice , and man perceiveth it not, &c. then he openeth the ears ofmen , and fealeth their infiruhtion. As if Ejihu had fayd ; 1ffpeaking will not doe et, foroewhat elfe fhall ; or wh'en god having spoken once or twice, yet fîndes man ',inattentive andunfencible, he takes another courfe ; then he openeth the ears ofmen, andfealeth up their infirution. If they underfland not his meaning by dreams and vifions, he will awaken them to purpofe. We fay, For God fpeaketh. As ifhere a reafon were given why Cod fhould not be called at all ( asbeing fogreat he ought not) to give man anaccount of any ofhis matters, for he fpeaketh once er twice, he is aforehand with man. To fpeake, in ftri& fence, as fpeaking is the forming up of words by an articulate voyce, is proper toman ; yet inScripture God is fayd to fpeake , when or howfoever he maketh,loiewne . his mind to man. Which he alwayes doth in fuch a way,as is'moff fuitable to hisowne greatnefie, with refpe& to mans weakneffe. When God giveth us any intiMation of his owne will, and of our duty, of what hewill doe for us,or of what he would have us doe, then
