Chap. 33. An Expo f ition upon the Book of J o"B. Verf. 77. hash death in it ; fn hath wrath in it ;.fin bath hell in it fin hath Devill and all in it ; therefore to be kept from fin, let it be by what means it will, if by pains and pining ficknefíes, if by re- proaches and difgraces, yea if by death, we have caufe to blefle God. The greateft and foreft Judgement which Godpowres up- on finfull men, is to let themalone in or not to withdraw them from their fins. Tobe fuffered togoeon and profper in fin, is theworft of fufferings, the laft of Judgements, the nextJudge- mentto hell it felfe, and an infallible figne of an heire of hell. Thus the wrath of God waxed hot against Ifrael when he gave them up to their owne hearts lulls, and they walked- in their owne Councel (Pfal: 81. a a.) This was the higheft revenge that God could take upon that finfull people. He fayd a little before, Ifr raet would none ofme ; when Godwooed them theywere fo coy, _ they would have noneof him; and then, laid he, goe on; take your fill of fin ; Igive you up to your owne hearts luf s.The Lord did not fay, I'gave them up to the (word, to the famine,or to the peflilence, but to their ownehearts lufts, and towalke on in their own way ; That perfon or peoplemaybefore, God bathpurpofed e- vili against them, whom he will not withdraw from the&evill par- pofes. The feverity ofthe wrath of God againa the Gentiles is exprell and fumm'd up in this ( Rom: a. 26, 28. ) Hegave them op to vileafettions; hegave them up to a reprobate mind, to doe' things which were not convenient: A naturall man left to himfelfe, grillfone doe fach things as nature it felfe abhorreth and blujheth at. The fame dreadfull doome is denounced ( Re*: 22 aa. ) He that is unjo /, let him be unjuflftill and he that is filthy, let him befilthyRill. I will not withdraw him from his way , let him goe on and perifh, let him goeon and fink dawn to the pit of perdition for ever. AsSt John in the Revelation foretelling the Church, given up or left to ( not in) great fufferingsofall forts ; Here is the patienceof theSaints. So'when we fee the world given up and left ingreat finings ofanyfart, efpecially if to (innings ofall forts, wemay truely and fadly fay, Here is the wrath ofGod. 'Tis therefore a great mercy, if Godwill any waywithdrawman fromhis finfull wayes and purpofes, efpecially when he taketh fuch, gentle wayes, as dreams and vifions, counfels and inftru&i ons, to withdrawman from his purpofe, and (as it follcweth in this verfe ).to hid&. 303.
