Chap, 34. An Expof:tion upon the Book, of J o B. Verf. 4, and with honey out of the rock, fhould Ihave fatisfied thee ; 'tis a mercy to have wheat, but the finelt of the wheat, and honey out of the rock, not ordinary hone*, but the belt honey, the purea honey, are greater mercies. We, by our fins, deferve that God fhould (as the Prophet fpeakes, Ifa: 3o. 20.) give ua the bread of adverfìty,and the waterofaffiitlion;that is, either that he fhould give us, ádver4'ity in head of bread, and atliaion in !lead of wa- ter, or that he fhould feed us with the courfelt bread, with huskes and bran , and give us bitter waters , the waters of Marah to drinke, yet he in mercy gives us pleafant bread, and wel-tailed water ; yea werewe better, hewould give us the belt bread, the finefl of the wheat, and our cup fhould be fweeter to us then the fweetea honey. The reafon why we havenot of thebefb, ú becaufe. we are no better. Yea God now gives us not only good things, but the bell of good things , even himfelfe , his Son andSpirit, who arebell of all (O how excellent is this loving kindnefs ! ) therefore let us not only look after good things, but the belt of good things , to honour God , and lift up his name to the high- efl in this world ; Let us labour to know and doe the belt things; and give God our heft fervices and purer+ praifes, even the male of our flocke, the fira- borne, the ltrengrh of our whole foules. To thefe higher+ attainments, Elihsa perfwades thofe wife and knowingmen, promifing to joyne with them in that fearch ; Come let us beat out the bufinefs with diligence, that we may at- lalt chufe Judgement, and know among our felves what is good, what is belt, SIi TDB, ,
