Chap. 34. An Expofìtion upon the Boob, of Jos. Verf. 6. when once uttered. Here are foure fayings brought againft 706, yet ob never fpoke anyof them expreifely,or in fo many words, but fuchcolle6ions were made ( indeed they were, as not falfe, fo not favourable colled}ions) from what he had fpoken. And he had but a poore remedy left, to fay he did not meane them fo. Take heedwhat you fpeak, words are ufually judged as others un- derfland them, not as you mean them:Indeed charity doth always incline to the belt conftruetion ; and will not interpret that ill, which maybeare abetter interpretation. But who knoweth whe- ther his words fhall alwayes meete with a charitable interpreter, our words doe not often meete with tuft and equall ones. No- thing, indeed, ismore common with uncourteous hearers, then to mifconfler thofe they beare, or to judge of what is fpoken rather as it may be taken to the fpeakers hurt and clefamation, then their owne profit or inftruôtion. And therefore though I would advife every hearer to ufe as much charity asmay be , yet I would alto advife every fpeaker to leave as little as_may be to the charityof his hearers. Thus much of the firft part of the charge in thefe foure fay- ings. In the threeverfes following, Elihu profecutes the charge, and ftandeth in admiration, ashere at the fayingsof Job, fo there ofhis doings. YYy2 a0 ta
