Chap. 34. An Expofition upon the Bookof J o B. Verf. a I. 57_I._ Yet, becaufe the latter part of the verfe fpeákes particularly to cleare God from wrong Judgement,' therefore, I conceive, we may better expound this former part of it more largely, as a ge nerall deniall of any evill abt whatfoever, done by God. Surely. God will not doe wickedly, Neither will the Almighty, pervert Payment.. The Almighty, whohath power to.doe what he will, hath no . will todoe this evill. He will not pervert judgement. The word nit.? detovgas- fgnilies both to pervert and fubvert, as alfo tobow, wreft, or put bit curvabit. out of order , to mingle or blend thofe things together , which fhould be forever feparated, or, as we fay, tomingle heaven and earth, yea heavenand hell together ; io doe they who mingle good and ill, right and wrong together. To pervert Judgement, is, to-doe all this, for then whichAbraham allured himfelfe was £arre-fromGod, Gem: 18. z5.) 7herighteousare as the wicked, thatis, the righteous fareas ill as the wicked, or the wicked fare as well as the righteous. But the Almighty will net pervert Judge- ment, that is, the right which belongs to any min, and therefore, he will doe everyman right. We had the fame pofition in termes (Chap: 8. 3d )-and we have had this whole verfe equivalen_ly in the lothof this Chapter, where Elihu fayd, Far be it from God. that he¡hold doe wickLdneffe, andfrom the Almghty, that he !hyoid commit iniquity. Here, only one verfe intervening, ETha reports and repeats the fame matter againe;but it is noneedleire or vaine repetition , for whichChrill reproved the prayer of the Hea- thens ( Math: 6.7. ) there are many repetitions in Scripture, but not onevaine one ; how often foever the fama truth is repea- ted there, it bath its weight and ufe,not onlyas it is,f}ill a truth, but as it is a truth repeated. And therefore I shall give a three- fold reafon why this truth is here again repeated, which will al:6 lead ús to a fuller improvement of ir. _ Firft , Becaufe this truth is ( as it were) the hinge upon which the-whole controverfie betweenJob and Elihre is turned.Jvb was unfatisfied becaufe he was fo ill handled, and therefore Elihu tells him often that God is righteous, and that he will not wrong anyman. Hereby giving Joy to underfiand, that God had done him nothing, or done nothing-to him, but right. Such grand fway- ing controling truths fhoúld be-often, and can fcarce be too often repeated.
