576 Chap. 34, An EvBofltior_ upon the 73oo1,of o B Verf. t 3 heavengivenme. Andhebath charged me tobuild him a horde in erufalem, which is in judah ; who is there among yon of all hid people, The Lordhis God be with hies, and let him gotup. God 'bath charged ate (faith Cyrus) or he bath made that my buhneflè, a bufineí% incumbent upon me, to build him a houle in jerufalem, that io, to further the worke, to ive the ewes leave to build the Temple of ersfalern; God-bath charged me with thisgreat ruff, end if sui willing to anfrver it. The fame thing is recorded, almoft in the fame words (E;,ra . 2.) ThusfaithCyrus Icing ofPerla, the Lord (led of heavenhehhgiver me Ail thekZingdoms o7the earth, nodhe bathCharged me ta+ïrÏtuild him ahoufe at j crufale n, which is in 'Judah. God giveth Princes their Charge, fupreame foveraigne Princes, yea he giyeth in£eriotir Princes and Magiífrates , their Charge ; but(faith Eiihu)iloo loathgivenhim a Charge e Certain- ty, no man. There is yet a twofold reading of this former part of the verie, both conliderable. Firfl , Thus who for himbath vii ted the earth ? As if it had been fayd, Hath God let any tovif t, or to look t® the earth for him, as if himfelfe flood- by and did nothing ; God ufeth the power of man, hePets up Magi, rates toworke for him ; but he never puts the worke out ofhis owne hand, nor cloth' he need any hand tohelpe him in that worke , though he ufeth many : and though he faith, By me (yeafor me ) Kings reign , yet we may fay with Elihu (in the notion now expreít ) whofor him hath vi- , fted the earth ? that's a good reading. Secondly, Whoover him loth vifat theearth ? Is God any mans Vicegerent ? is he a LordDeputy, or a Viceroy? No, there is no man vifits the earth over him, for, ( as we render clearely) Who bathgivenhim a Charge over theearth ? As if he had fayd, If God be an unjuf?Judge, is there anyfuperiour fudge to whom we may ap- pealefor remedyor redreffeofour injuries ? Who over himvifiteth, -ór, whohath given hima charge over the earth. That is-, over the inhabitants of the earth, or over the afl=ayres of the earth. The Earth, by a Synecdoche of the Continent for the matter contained, is here put for all pc/Tons and tranfa6tions over the face of the whole earth. Who bath layd, that great Charge, the difpofall of all things and people in the earth upon God ?
