There is yet a twofold reading of this former part of the verie, both conliderable. Firfl , Thus who for himbath vii ted the earth ? Secondly, Whoover him loth vifat theearth ? Is God any mans Vicegerent ? is he a LordDeputy, or a Viceroy? No, there is no man vifits the earth over him, for, ( as we render clearely) Who bathgivenhim a Charge over theearth ? As if he had fayd, If God be an unjuf?Judge, is there anyfuperiour fudge to whom we may ap- pealefor remedyor redreffeofour injuries ? Who over himvifiteth, -ór, whohath given hima charge over the earth. That is-, over the inhabitants of the earth, or over the afl=ayres of the earth. The Earth, by a Synecdoche of the Continent for the matter contained, is here put for all pc/Tons and tranfa6tions over the face of the whole earth. Who bath layd, that great Charge, the difpofall of all things and people in the earth upon God ?
