192 Chap. 34. An Ezpofition upon the Beok_,of J O B Verf. 14, are as eaf e to him as the eafiefl ; for as (T al, t 39. 1 a.) Darkt, nefs hideth not from thefight of God, the darknefs and the light are both atl`e tohim; fo har<inefs hinders not the work of God, hardnefs and eafinefs are both alike to him, if he fet his heart upon it, From this general truth, take two inferences. Firff, How should we fear before this God ? How fhould we tremble at the remembrance of, andwalk humbly (in our highe( alfurance) with this God ? We are much afraid to difpleafe thofe men who can eafily hurt us, and in whole hand it is to ruine us every hour : But O how little are we in this thought to fear the Lord, to rake heed of difpleafiing the Lord, who can with cafe either help or hurt, either bring falvation or deflru&ion, who in a moment can thrufi the foul out of the body, and call both into hell. Secondly,Wemay hencemake a flrong inference for the com- fort of the people of God, when their f+raits are moft pinching, and their difficulties look like impoffibilities, and are fo indeed, while they look to man ; when their enemies are llrongeff, and the mountainswhich (land in the Way of their expe&ed comforts greaten, if then God will be entreated to let hisheart, andcan his eye upon them, their firaits are prefently turned into enlarge- . ments, difficulties become, eafie, 'and mountains plains. If we can but engage the Lord , ( his own promife is the fureff en- gagement, and indeed all that we can put uponhim, or minde }?iln of, if(I fay) we can thus engage the Lard) tobe with us,who can be (to our hurt, manywill beto their own) againfûus, Secondly Note. t Our life is at thebeck, eli fpofe andplc fore of God. He cangather the fpirit and the breath to himfelf whenfoever he pleafeth ; (Pfal, 204. 29.) Thou hidefl thy faceand they are troubled, and thou taken away their breath, they die, and, return to their duff. If Godhideth his face from us, 'tis death while we live; but if he take away our breath, we cannot live, but die. (l'fal. 9e. 3.) Thou turnefl man to deflrullion, and (ayefl, Return yechildren of men. Here's man turning and returning upon the laying of God ; man turneth todeath, hereturneth to duff, and (hall at Iafl return from the duff, and all this when God faith he mrlf. Our life is a very frail thing, and it is in the hand of God to
