Chap. 34. An Expofition upon the Book, of JO n. Verf. r9. 63/ by both tooffend and provoke the great God ? O remember, the force ofthis text ;. If it be not fit to fpeake unduely of Princes, How much leffe of him that accepteth not theperfons of Princes ? Hence note, Secondly. god is ne accepter ofperfons. He hath no refpe& toPrinces in prejudice to truth and righte eufneffe , but in every nation he thatfeareth him andworketh rigb teoufnefe ( be henever fo poore) is accepted with bin, (Aets zo. 3 5.) and inevery nation he that feareth himnot, but worketh un- righteoufneffe ( be he never fogreat ) is unacceptable yea abomi- nable to him. The Scripture often attributes this glory to God, ( Dent: Io. 17. z Chow: 19.7. Gal: 2.6. Col: 3. 25.) And as it is the glory of God, that he is noaccepter ofperlons, fo it is the dutyof man (Deat: 1. 17.) Judgement mull proceed snd conclude with refpe& to the rule, and command ofGod, notwith refpe& to theperfons of men, or our relations to them. Levi was highly commended for this ( Dent: 33:9.) who fayduntohis fa- ther andto his mother,/ have not feenehint ; neither did he acknow- ledge his brethren, nor knewhis Donne children, &c. Whenman ac- cepteth not the perfons ofmen he ac&eth moll like God,of whom J 1ihs faith, He accepteth not theperfons of Princes, Nor regardetb the richmore then thepoore. That's a further defcription ofGod ; He doth not regard, that is, acknowledge or know the one more then the other ; He is (in ægaafcere, the heft things) as communicative to, and converfeth as familiarly rmareritPr Y trá£äare. with the poore as the rich;yea,he dothnot value or prize the rich man more then the poore ; the poor man is worth as much as the rich man in Gods account;fuppofe the rich man worth thoufands, yea ten thoufands ofgold and Over , and the poore man fopoore that he is not worth a fhilling, yet in the account ofGod the poor man is worth as much as the rich man. The Scripture fpeakes oftwo forts both of rich and poor men ; There are men rich in fpiritualls, fuch Chrill intimates, who are (Luke ts. 2©.) rich towards god, or ashe fpeakes of the Church of Smyrna(lkëv° 2.:9.)rich ingrace,/ know thypoverty, but thouart rich; That is, I know thou art poor inearthly pelfe, but rich in fpi ritualls,The Apoflie ernes puts thequeflion((hap a 5 )Hath. not God.'
