664 Chap. 34.. An Expofition upon the Book,of J O B Verf. zI. righteoufneffe. The Prophet makes that inference in the place before-cited ( z Chron: r 6, 9.) 7he eyes oftheLord run too and fro through the earth (what followeth ? ) toPhew himfelfeJiang in the behalfeof them, or (aswe put in the Margin )firongly to hold with themwhofe heart is perfeïl towards him. The Lord is alwayes firong, and alike in firength, his hand is not fhortned at any time, that he cannot fave, yet he Both notalwayes Phew his flrength;but as he is flrong, fo he will (hew himfelfe firong for the perfea or upright in heart that is, he will aoc his ilrength to the utrnoft for the fafety and all-dance of thofe whole hearts are perfe6t with him. So then, as they that are good, and doegood, Chaff be re- warded for the good they havedone, fo they {hall be prote6ted in the dangers. and evills theyincurre while they are doing good. Another Prophet.fpeakes both thefe inferences from thisprinci- ple of the knowledge orfight ofGod (Jer: 3 z. 19.) He isgreat tocouncell, andhe is mighty in working, forhis eyes are upon all the wayes ofthefans ofmen, togive to every one according tohis wayes, and according-to thefruit ofhis doings. Fourthly, If the eyes of the Lord are upon all the wayes of the Children of men, then the Lordwill call all men town ac- count for theirwayes. Why doth he take notice of their wayes, but to bring them to a reckoning ? That's the Apofllesconclufion (Ron: 14. z z.) So then everyone ofus fha/lgive an account ofhimfelfe to fled ; God would not take an account ofour wayes while we live, if he did not intend tabring us to an account when we dye. As the omni- fcience of God fits him to call every man to anaccount, fo it is an evidence that he will. Why should our wayes and workes be firioîly obferved and reCorded, if they were not tobe judged ? Fifthly, This truth that the eyes of God are upon all the wayes ofman, fhould awaken everyman to take heed (as David refol- ved he would, Pfal: 39, ) to his wayes. Did we walke as, re- membringwe are under his Allfeeing eye , O how circumfpe&tly fhould we walke ! doth theLord infpeiî our wayes,O how fhould we infpeól our owne wayes 1 Irr arguetha great deale of Atheifme in the heart, ifnot thegroffeft Atheifme, yet Atheifme (quo-ad hoc) as to this or that thing : while that which force are afraid to doe, ifaman, yea ifachild fee them, they are not afraid to doe though
