Chap. 34. .eIn Expofition upon the Poo of j o a. Verf. 27. 7 9 Hence Obferve. Evil men have no mill to confider or nnderflandthe good wayes of God ; yea, their will tr againif fach an tenderJlanding. , A natural man liketh not to retain God in his knowledge, (Rom. I. 28.) Now,> he that doth not like to retainGod inhis know- ledge, or had rather thinkof any thing then of God, he can ne- ver (while fuch) like to retain the wayes of God in his know- ledge ; he that layeth Godout of his thoughts, will much more lay the law of God out of his thoughts. The natural man hath not only, abiindnefs in his minde, yvhich hinders him fromdtfcern- ing the things of God, (they being difcernable onlyby a fpiritual eye) but hehath an abRRinacy in his Will ; or, he hath not only an inabilityto know, but an enmityagain the knowledge of that which is fpiritual : He fhutshis eyes, and draws a curtainbetween' himfelf and the light which is ready to dart in upon him ; away with this light, faith he ; Thus he rebelleth againfi the lighr, and ashis underflanding isdark, fohis affe6ions are corrupt. Solomon gives us all this in the exponulations of wifdome with wicked men, (Prov. I. zo, z'i, 2a.) wifdome cryeth, &c. How long ye fimple ones will yelovefimplicity, and the fcorners delight in their feorning, and fools hate knowledge ? Tkat which a man hateth, he bath no will, nomindeto know. An impotency or inability unto God, argues a very fad condition, but a rebellion; a frowardnefs, a"wilfulnefs againfl it, demonfirates a conditionmuch more fad ; not to know becaufe we have no means of knowledge, will make us tniferable enough , but not to know becaufe unwilling to receive, or because wilfully fet againfi the means of knowledge, rendersany mans condition molt mìferable.Such were thefe in the Text, They moldnot confider any of his wayes. Secondly, Elihu faith not, they didnot knowanyofhis wayes, or theyknew not which way to go but they, would no *_ confider them. There is no man but knowes fome,, yea many Of theways of God, that is, of chore wayes whereinGod would have him to walk ; thefe wayes of God are written in the heart by nature, there is an imprefliionof the Wiltof God upon every foul, though not fuch an impreflion or writing as grace maketh there("char's an- oherkinde or manner of work) for, when once through grace the Law of od is written in, andimpreffedupon the heart, then the heart
