The thoughts of the heart are the fayings of the heart ; and fin hath made a wickedman fo much a fool, that as he knowes not how to fay any thing of God, which is honourable, withhis tongue, fo all that his heart can fay,that is, think of God, is, that God is not ; which as it is the higheff blafphemy, fo the deepefl piece of folly and irrationallity that ever was hatcht in the heart ofman. Sinmakes dull-heads, it flupifies the foul ; fnners confider not that, at any time, which is their intereft as much as their duty to confider ofat all times, the wayes of God, as taken for the wayes whereinman ought to walk towards God. Again, If we take the wayes of God in the fecund notion, for the wayes wherein himfelf walks towards man, ufually called his works, or the wayes of his providence. Note. It is the mark of an ungodlyman, not to confider the works and providences of God, how God walceth towards him, or what he doth in the world. (l1a. I. 3.) The Scripturemakes frequent mention how ex- treamly ill the Lord rakes it at the hands of men, when his wa:ks are not confidered by them,when they regard not the operation of his hands.Indeed God doth much in theworld,hewalketh in ma- ny dark and hiddenwayes, which thou_,h we confider, we cannot fully underfland ; Thy way (faith Afaph,P"fal.77. rj:) is to thefea, and thy path inthe great waters, and thy foot Reps are not known.
