And fo may we, while we con- fider the works of Providence, whether works of judgement, or works ofmercy ; whether vengeanceupon thewicked, or deli- verance for the godly. Let tís therefore fer our felves to this foul-ravishing , and God- exalting work ; the confideration of the works of God And we are the-more engaged to do it, becaule God hathflcred man, among all creatures in this lower world, (and he hath only, fitted man) to give him glory by confidering his works. The beaffs of the earth_cannot glorifie God by confidering his works ; 'tistrue, both they,& the fowls of the ayr, with the fifh of the fea, according to theirkinde, praife God but man only is fitted and furnished with an inìelle& or underflanding faculty to confider, and fo CO draw out from all the works of 'God, thofepeculiar ex- cellencies which make his Name glorious : Now, for man to leave fuch a faculty unexercifed . andunwed, (as they who con- fider nor the works of God do) is notonly a dishonour ro God, butadegradationof himfelf. As it is thepriviledge and happinefs of a man to enjoy the benefit oftheworks of Gad, fo It is his holinefs and his duty to confider the beauty-ofthem.And to all.who, brutally lay by the worksof God withoutconfideration, let meadde this confideration ; God confidersall your works or wayes, and will not you confider the works; the wayes ofGod ! The Lord who is of purer eyes then to beholdany the leali iniquity, to approve ir,. will yet behold the greateft of your iniquities, and your impu= ref} wayes to confider them.' Thou (faith David, Pfal: ro. 14.) Thoubeholden m1fchisf ande¡pite, to requite it . God beholdeth the fouleftdirtyefl wayesof men, their wayes of opprellion and unrighteoufnefs, their wayes of intemperance and lafciviouCnefs, their wayes of wrathand rnaalicjoufnefs, at once to detefi, deter and±
