Chap. 34. An Expoftion upon the Book of J o B. Verf. 29. .733 darknefs ; but the Lord can make his people filent in light, that is, he can give fuch quietnefs as fhalI at once filence the noife of warre and all their own cómplainrs, when hegiveth luietnefi (this bleflèd filence to nations) who then canmake trouble ? Hence obferve. Firfl , Thequietnefs or peaceofnations is thepeculiar gift ofGod. Whofoever bath or enjoyeah quietnefs,'tis Gods work, but moll eminently when nations enjoy it. Ofnational( quietnels the Lord fpakeby hisProphet (Ifa: 45. 7.) I forme the light, &c. Imake peace, I the Lord doe all thefe things. As naturali fo civil( light is of Gods forming; as fpirituall,fo temporal( peace is of Godsmaking. And the Church was confident he would bu their peace-rnak.r (Ifa: z6. a z.) Lord thou wilt ordainepeacefor ou. Some read it as a prayer , Lord doe thou ordaine (or command) peace for us ; we as aprofeffionof their faith and hòpefull if not full alfurance that the Lordwould ordaine peace for them. TheLori gives out anorder, or makesan ordinance in heaven, when he pleafeth for the peace both of Churches and nations here on earth. And the. To bring peace out of warre, and quietnefs out of unfetlednefs, is a ivorke worthy of God. ( Pfal: 46. 9. ) Hemaketh n'erres to ceafe to the ends ofthe earth ; that is, all the world over. The end or ceafing ofwarre is quietnefs. And toaffure us that the Loi can make an end of warres, the Pfeimifl in that place fheweth us the Lord fpoyling all the implements, or inflruments of warre, He breaketh the bon', and cars thefpeare afunder, he burneth the charii- ot,
