Verf.zga conveyance of this peace is made by theholy Spirit ; he is fene to bring the good tydings of peace ur_o believers : the Spirit fpeaks peace fromGod,andwitnefleth with our fpirits,that we are at peace with God. And as this peace is at fist fromGod the Fa- ther as the fountain of it, & fromGod the Son as the Purchafer of ic,and from God the holyChoft as the Speaker of it;fo the conti- nuing and renewing of thispeace is from the fame God. He ella- blifheth and fetleth the heart in that peace which he hath given, and he reftoreth that peace when at any time we haveloft it, and theheart isunfetled. David's foul being unquiet, and his peace raven after his fin, he addrefled to God for the renewing of ir, (Pfal.5r. t2.) Reftoretome the joy ofthyfalvation. Note, Secondly. The quietrefsor peace which God beflows uponany perfon it an invincible, an infuperable peace andquaetnefs, as to all that this worldcan do, or heMir in this world. If God will give a quiet outward eflate, no man can difturb ir; when God gave Tob outward quiernefs, what a mighty man was he ? how did he flourifh ? Nor could any break his outward peace ; Satan confeft it in the firft chapter, Thou haft made a hedge about him, andabout his boufe, andabout all that he bath, on ,everyfide; there is not the leatt gap open, no nor flake loofned in his hedge, who can touch him ? who can come at hint ? I can- not touch him, Sabeans and Chaldeans cannot touch him. While the Lord giveth and guardeth our outward peace, it is inviolable. And as toour fpiritual peace, if the Lord fpeak ir, who or what can trouble the foul ? Firft, The afflictions, tribulations,and vexationswhich wemeet with in the world,cannot trouble-thisisard peace; whileflorms are without,there will be a calm within; thefoul maybe at peace, and
