ELihuhaving convincedJó,both of thepower ofGod, todoe what he pleafeth, andaltoof his righteoufneffe, thathe is juft inwhatfoever he pleafeth to doe , proceedeth to give him coon- fell, how to carry himfelfe better towards God, then by hisfor- mer fpeeches and expoftulations ( hinted at the 5thverfe of this Chapter) he feemed to have done. In thefe two verfes he gives him ( according to our tranflation) counfell confining of three branches. Firn , He counfells him to a due fubmiflion , to the hand of God. In the former part of the 3 rth verfe ; Surely it is mate to befaidunto God, Ihave borne chaflifement. Secondly , He counfells him to reformation, or to a gracious refolution of laying downe every finfull thing, or what ever was a provocation to God. This he doth once and againe, twice in there two verfes ; Firft, in the dole of the 3 ith verfe ; It is mate to befayd unto God, Iwill not offend any more Secondly, in the clofe of the Sad verfe; If I have done iniquity, I will doe no more. Thirdly, Elihu counfells rob, to pray for further difcoveries, bothof his fns, and finfidlneffe, as alto of his duty, at the begin- ning of the 32dverfe ; That which Ifee not teach thou me. Thus you have the diffina poynts of that counfell which Elihu gives j^o6, according to our reading of thefe words. There is another reading, which I (hall touch, when I have lrf' opened and profe- cured the words as they Rand in ours. Verf. 3 r .
