God makes new rods, when men make new fins ; and he multiplyerh fwords,whìle men multiply tranf reflìons. The more men draw iniquity with cords of vanity, the more they draw mi- fery upon rhernfelves, and are held the faller in the cords of af- fli &iota. Secondly, When 'Lis Paid, The hypocrites in heart heap op wrath. We know hypocrites are cunning gameilers, they hope to fin fo clofely and artificially, that no hurt (hall ever come to them by it, yet The hypocrites inheart heap up wrath. Hence Note ; The wiles and policies of hypocrites wilt availe them nothing; They (mall not avoyd wrath, do what they can ; the Lord will end them out. The Apoftle faith ( Gal.6. 7.)God is not mocked ; for whatfoever a man fowetb,that (hail he alfo reap ; for he that fäw- eth to his f efh, fhall of thePilo reap corruption ; but he that foweth -ts the Spirit, fhail of the Sprit reap life everlafing. Let hypocrites in heart fow as cunningly as they can, though they feena to fow only good feed, yet they fhall reap bad fruit, besaufe they fowed with a bad heart. Hypocrites may deceive men, and heap up their favours to thenafelves, but they cannot deceive God, who knows their hearts, and will therefore confume them inhis wrath, which they have heaped up to themfelves. Thirdly , Elihtt puts it upon hypocrites in heart to be at this workof heaping up wrath. All impenitent fanners do it but he puts it upon them efpecially. All finners, open profeffed finners, that fin and hide it not, that throw up even the very name and pcofeflon of Religion, thefe all heap up wrath ; yet they heap up moll, and are here fpoken of,as theonly heapets up of wrath,who are hypocrites in heart. Hence Note ; God is extreamly angry with hypocrites, or the wrath ofGod lothburn extromlyhot agairfl hypocrites; Hêheats the Furnace of his wrath feven times hotter for hypo- crites in heart, than for ordinary finners.
