276 Verf. a 5. min Evpofitionupon the Book, of Jos. Chap. 36. Hence Note , Deliverance is the walk ofGod. As the poor cannot deliver rhemfelves in affi&ion,îo neither can the rich deliver the poor by his riches,nor the thong by his power, nor the wife man by his vvrfdorn, craft or pollicy. The Lordof- ten ufeth the help of man, creature help, in delivering the poor cat of afflictions ; yet the whole effeit is here, and every where in Scripture attributed to God, He delivereth thepoor. Delive- rance of any fort is of God, yet more efpecially force fort ofde- liverances are;as Nebuchadrez.zarconfe#fed (Dan.3.29.) who, when chofe three Worthies were delivered out of the fiery fur- nace, made adecree, that every People, Nation and Language which fpal e any thing ami f , againff the God ofShadraeh, Mefhach and Abednego, (hould be cut in pieces, &c. and hedid it upon this ground, becaufe (faithhe) there is no other God that can deli- ver after thisfort. He had an opinion that hisgod coulddeliver, but he appropriated the glory of that deliverance to their God ; there is no god candeliver etfter thisfort ; no god but the God of Shadrach, cAlefhach and e4hednego can check andflop the rage of fire, and bring out thofe unburnr, who are caf+ into the burning. That's the firít thing, Deliverance is ofthe Lord. Secondly, He delivereth thepoor. Note ; The lowefi and meanefi are the objegs ofdeliverance. When it's wort+ with us, thenufually God corneth in. Hewill bejeer in the Mount, and provide at a pinch ; he loves to do for us when we can do nothing for our felve-. Take the poor in any notion, but efpecially for fuck as being deflitute of all help and meansof deliverance, are alto poor in fpirir, not trufling to any help or humanearm, thefe, thefe are the perlons whom the Lord delights to deliver ; and therefore God is fo often fpoken of in Scripture, as efpoufing the caule and quarrel of the Widow and the Fatherlefr. Thirdly; From the manner of expreffiorí, He delivereth the poor in al;Etion, Note;
