Elihu having urged two arguments to make job beware of wrath, firfi, becaufe nothing could ranfomhim, God regards not riches, no not gold ; fecondly, becaufe nothing could refcue him, all theforces offtrennth could not defend him againft, nor fetch him out from under the hand of God ; Elihu (1 fay) ha- ving difpatched there two arguments, he in the zcth verfe gives a further, and that a third argument to move job co take heed of wrath, becaufe, as hecould neither be ranfomednor refcued, fo neither could he be hid or fheltred from the wrath of Cod. That is the general fence of the next verfe. Verf. 20. Defire not the night, when people are cut off in their place. The root of that word which we render defire, fignifies a very earnefl breathing and longing after a thing, as conceiving and be- lieving the enjoyment thereof would be an exceeding comfort >r and refret1 ment to us. Such fideriotents, merc. an intendment and force there is in this word, defire not, long not for, gape not after the night, The night feems net to be a thing, or a feafon fo delireable, that we should gape for it or long after it. Solomon faith ( Eccl. z t. 7.) I anfwer, the night maybe taken two wayes, or under a two- fold notion.
