Chap. 315. e.,InExpofa2ion upon thePooko f o B. Verf. 2 z. and a place of refuge, ( Pfal. ro7. 41 . ) He fetteth the poor on high from of li lion , and maketh hiva families like a fi?;c1Z. The Prophet (1fa. 3 3. 16.) Having fpoken of the man that tvalketh ita his integrity, tels us how it (1 all be with him, He frail dwell on high-; The word is, Hefrail dwell in the highplaces, that is , he (hall dwell in God,who is moll high, for evermore ; God will ex- alt him even to as much fafety,as himfelf is in ; his place ofdefence (hall be themonition ofRocks ;bread 'hull begiven him , his water Partieeps Brit /hall before ; He (hall be hoofed with God ,..4: iei- ,yeahauled in God, tstis, ar con- he (hall be fed by God, he ¡hall lodge under his roof, and it ( as fors tali a* it were ) at his Table, he (hall have bread enough, and water menfa. enough, and both fure enough. And if the Lord exalteth thus by hispower, let none be dif- couraged in their affli6}ions and callings down. The Lord alone is fufficienr, yea allfufñcient ; and he exalteth not only by his will, that is, he hath not only a will to exalt, but he exalteth by his power, that is, he bath power enough to exalt whom he will. What power foever is in the creature, 'cis the Lords power 'cis a Bream from his Ocean, and when the Lord is pleated to re- move all power from the creature, he hash a fufficient referve of power in himfelf, or in his own hand, by which hecan command deliverance, yea exaltation. Therefore do not fpeak either de- fpondingly or defparingiy, as if all hope were gone, when ar any time all humane power is gone ; for God exalteth by his (own) power ; and as it followeth in the Texr, Who teacheth like him ? As if Elibas had faid, God is not good only at aaing, but he is good at in(}ru&int, and he is bell at both. He is bell or beyond; all in power ; He is bell or beyond all in wit-dome and under- lîanding, and therefore who teacheth likehim ? At the t ïth verte of this Chapter, we have the fubri7nce of what is here alerted, and fo upon the matter , 'cis but the fame thing repeated ; there it is, He delivereth the poor ; here, He ev- altet.h by his power ; There 'cis faid, He openeth their ear to in-- firma-ion ; here, Who teacheth likebim ? The words are a divine chalenge, Who teacheth li,e him ? Bring forth the man , bring forth the Angel thatcan. The word which here we render, to teach, in its fîrff retire fignifieth tocat a Dart, javelin, or Stone. Xx l.t 337 ff
