Hence more ; God is the ¡rfl m;ver of all that hirafelfdoth ; No man hath (hewed him or enjoyned him his way. He is the fountain of lighr, he feeth what to do ; who bath been his coun- fellor ? (t (or. 2. 16. ) that is, no man bath, or may infirm him (Ifa.40. a 3. Rom. T t. 34) Again, he is the fountain of power ; none bath authority to dire& him , he is above all ; as he needs not the counfel of any, fo he receiveth the rule from none; I have had occafioñ more than once in the procefs of this book, to fay fomewhat of the foveraignty of God over all crea- tures, and therefore only remind it here, Who bath enjoynedhim .bis way? Orwho canfay, thaw haft wrought iniquity ? The world is full of iniquity, but in God there is noneat all. As God is not obliged to give any men an account ofhis works, fo no man can find any, the lea(t, real fault or defe& in anyof them; and if his works do not appear .fro tous now, yet at tail they will appear to all without any fhadow of iniquity. Samuel called the Ifraelites, anddemanded (t Sam. t i. 3.) f have I taken ? &c. Whom have I defrauded ? &c. Come charge me, witnefs again( me; who can fay, I have wrought iniquity ? It was much, and a rare thing for Samuel to carry it fo juflly, that none could challenge him ; but when all the world (hall be fum- tnoned before God, he will be able toput the que(lion, Who of all the Ions of men, can fay, I have wrought iniquity ? None can fay ir, but with utmofl impudency and higheft blafphemy. It is impoffble for God to work iniquity ; not only is his Command, but his Will totally again} it. What-ever Godworks isaccord- ing to his own Will, and his Will is the Rule of Righteoufnefs ; therefore he can do no iniquity. There is no iniquity in a&ingeor working according ro the Law. If men a&l; according to their will, they ufually a& iniquity,becaufe theirwill is nee a Law, and 'tis feldome conformed to the Law.The will of no man is fo right, or fo fixed in the right, as robe received for a Law. But feerng what-ever God doth, he doth it according rohis ot,n Will, and lais Will is the righteous Rule of all things, therefore all mutt right he
