352 Verf. 24. (4n ELpoftion upon the Book of J o B. Chap. 3 6, rent. As if Elihu had faid ; Thou complainefl that thou art over- flowed with a deluge ofafflillioros; but doefl thou remember how God defiroyed the whole world at once in the univerfal flood? But though I think, that maybe taken in among other works, yet to refiraine it to that is a great deal tconarrow for this Text. Therefore un- der this work of God, we may comprehend any great work of God, which is upon record, or whichwe have heard of , wherein he aath (hewed his power, wifdome, and jufiice. Remember his work,; The work of providence. Thole works of providence which are afflioîive, have a great place in this Text, becaufe the perfon fpoken to was one in an affli&ed condition. And I conceive Elihoe dire&s fob not fo much ro magnifie God for the day of profpericy and Sun-thine which he once had,as for the day of ad- verfity and darknefs, which then covered him. Remember that thou magnifie his wort¿,, Which men behold, Which the foss ofEnofh behold,Cairh Mr Braughton,But the word Sons is not in the Text , there 'tis only men, or weaQ,men The 11/./ word which we tranflate to behold, hub a double fignification, and that bath caufed a double tranflation : It fignifìeth, firti, to fing ; De qu® cecine fecondly, to fee or behold. It is tranlilated by feveral in the former runt viri. fenfe, -Remember that thoumagnifie his work., whereofmenhave f1aaa fang ; The Chaldee Paraphrafeofaith , For which juFI men have Yl(pe,l1ü17(Yt, given in Pfalmes and fangs. Beholding fully a good thin, Ghald: and praifing it, or praifing God for ir, go together, asMr Breuph- tom glofhe expreffeth it out of Ramban. Gracious and holy men donot only fpeak, but fing the wonderful works of God ; And, that praifes were in.fong or verle, both the Scriptures and many ancient Authors teflifie. God works, and men ring the pralles of God for his works, as cM fes, David, andDeborah did. Andwe find all theSaints ( Rev. t y..3.) finging pralles to the Lord for the great workwhich he will do in bringing forth Judgement to perle&ion upon Babylon. Thus it is a truth, the work of God is to be Tung and fet forth in meeter, or inverte. We take the other trarflatior, Which men behold; which, wirh refpe& to that which folioweth (v; zS.) where both expreflions refer
