Not only bath God made thebody of the watero-vhich is one of the four ge- neral Elements, of which zll bodies are compounded and made, bue he makes the water intofrnall drops,or noakethfmali the drops of water. Hence note ; That the water falls from heaven by drops, connes to pals by the efpecial power, wifdom andgoodnefs of God. the evater,if left to felf, would fall whole like a fea upon us, or like a mighty floud, in fuch quantities as would, inf1ead of re- frefhing, overwhelm the earth. When God drowned the world;ic is laid ( Gen. 9. t a. ) The fame day were all thefountains of the great deep broken up,arsd thewindows (or flood-gates) o fheaven were opened. We are not to imagine that heaven bath windows orflood- gates ; but God did not put forthhis mighty power tomake fault the drops of rain, but let it come all at once : thofe waters which were before bound up in the clouds, by the decree of God, were now, by his decree, let bofe ina wonderful manner and tneafure, and came down, not in drops, but in flreames and fpeuts ;, the clouds didnot (as formerly) deflil their burden, but cafe them- pluvia to nt felves of it at once, or altogether. Rain ordinarily (as fweat bi6ux, vetur iu through the Pores of the skin) paffeth by degrees through the tinted EalnidlE Pores of the Clouds, yet God can letit out all at once. Firfi, It is a work of his power, nor is it donewithout a kind of Miracle, that the water comes down,as it were, through afive, or watering-pot. Secondly, It isa work of divine wisdom.
