'Obferve ; The Snow and Rain are to be written in eheCatalogue ofGods wonderful works. What more common than Snow andRain ? and yet, as com- mon as they are, they have wonders in them. Some of the 'Ancients have observed many VVonders in the Snow, fuck as there. Firfl, That being in itsown na°u -e foextreamly cold, yet it is formed in that part of the Air which is comparatively near the earth, and fo hash more hear in ir. Secondly, That Snow, being fo exceeding cold, do:h yet by Gods Command fall in come very hot Countries, even in the hot- tea of Sommer. Geographers tell us of Snow in many places of Tartary, which are extreatt,ly hot. Thirdly, they give this asa VVonder, That whereas it never Snows atall upon 'the Main Ocean, yet there is an Ifland fpo- PIin.Iib. 6. ken of by Pliny, called (?Vivaria from Nix) thé Snow Ile , cap. 32. Nat. Mifìor. which, though compaffed with the Sea, is alwayescovered with , Snow. Fourthly, this is given as aWonder, That Snowbeing fo apt to melt byheat, yet Mount e/£tna,thich is full of Sulphur,and cafi's out flames of fire continually, bath the Head ofit hidden continu- ally under or covered with aCap of Snow, Fifthly, That in come places VVorms are bred and live in the Snow of a fiery colour. Sixthly, That the Snow,though it be very cold and chilling,hath in it a fecundating or fatning power, as to the earth, is alfowon- derful. Snow is a great cheritr and nourifher of Plants and Trees, of Corn and Grafs; and therefore IDaoid faith (Pfal. 147. 1 5,I6.) He giveth Snow like Yost, and hsary Frail like aflies. There are three things ¢onfderable in Snow, for which it is compared to VVool. Firfi, for the whiteners of it. Snow is white as'VVool ; Snow is Io exceeding white, that he whitenefs of a Soul cleanfed by pardoning Grace, in the blood of Chritf, is likened to it ( /fa. I . I S.) and the latter part of the fame verle intimates, that the whitenefs of Snow bears ref'emblance to that of VVool. The whitenefs ofSnoyv is caufed by the abundance of Air
