Firft, Fie huh given his Word to Man, not to Beasts ; he bath not made a Bible for the Beaft of the Earth, and the Fowls of the Air ; but for Man he bath, that he might both know his will and do ir,know his favour or good will to him,and enjoy ir. Secondly, He bath given fome men his Spirit,he hath not bellowed hisSpirit upon any Beafts, nor upon any Fowls of the Air : and becaufe his Spirit teacheth us, we are laid to be taught of God, eminently taughtof God. Thirdly, he bath given us his Ordinances, and appointed Officers, or let perlons in Office, to mannage and hold out thofe Ordinances, wherein himfelf is both honoured anden- joyed. Further as to the matter indueftion about the Providences and dealings of God with man ; God hath taught Man much more than Beafts : As Firft,That all things which befall us,come from, and are orderedby himfelf. Secondly, That we ought to receive the Rule and take inftru&ion fromGod,how to behave our felves .under his various dealings. Thirdly,He bath taught us at all times, and in all turns of Providence, to flay our felves in waiting upon him, ( pfal. 37.7. ). Fourthly, He bath taught us in times of trouble and affliEtion, tocry to him, and call upon him as hischil- dren in faith, not barely tocomplain, much lefs tobe impatiently outragious like Beafl% Now ifGod hath taught us more than the Beafts, then, we (hould not live by fenfe, norpurfue fenfble things, as Beafts do, but afpire to and faek after union and communion with God, whom the beafts of the earth know not. How greatly will this aggravate the fin of man, ifhaving been taught more than beafts, any man fhould be found to have learned lefs than beatts ; as will appear yet more in the next obfervation but one.
