What it is to be a blefsing to others, read at large in the z9th Chapter of this Book (verf. I r .) and in 31 Chapter (verf. 2o.) They that do good to others, they efpe- cially who do goodCO the fouls of others,are a blefsing to others. Now, they who do good , they (hall receive good themCelves (Prow. t t. z5.) The liberal (hall be made fat, and be that water - eth, fhall be watered alfobimfelf. He that watereth is a common good, ableffing to the place where he lives, a blefsing to the rich, a blefsing to the poor, a blefsing to relations, a blefsing to titan- gets ; upon fuch , the Scripture affures the blefsing of the Lord. Sixthly, They who promote the worfhip and fervice of God, they that are friends to the Arkof God, (hall be bleffed (2 Sam. 6. t I.) The Lord bleffed the houfe of Obed-edom, becaù(e he en- tertained the 4rk, (hewed kindnefs to.the Ark, and was ready to do any fervice for the Ark of God ; he will be a friend to the true friends of his Church. Seventhly, They (hall receive a blefsing of God, who lirive in prayer for his blefsing. Jacob was bleffed but fie wre(lled for it. They that would have ir, muff ask it with agracious impor- tunity; they that teak it diligently, (hall find ir. Thefe are the chief chara&ersof the perfons whom the Lord will Nets. And feeing his blefsing is Co effe&ual for the procure- ment of our good, we fhould above all things labour to procure his blefsing. When Tacobwrefiled with the Angel, he askedno- thingof him but a' blefsing (Gen. 3 z. z6.) He did not fay, [ will not let thee go, except thou deliver me frommybrother Efau; he did not fay, /will not let thee go, unlefs thou make me rich,or great ; he only Paid, 1 u;illnot let thee go, except thou blefr me ; let me be bleffed, and let me be what thou wilt, or I can be. What fhould we defire in comparifon of the b'efsing of God, feeing his blefsing (Rri;&ly taken) is the fruit of his fatherly love 1 Aman may be rich, and great;and honoured among men, yet not beloved ; but he that is indeed bleffed, is certainly beloved of God.
