í!< l. t 3o , Chap.. 38', 'An Expoftson upon the Book of j 013, Verf, Hence Note ; PHI , The Suns light is wonderfully extenfiveandd;ffcej ve, TheSun bath large arms , or rather long wings. Some hawks' are called long winged , The fame we may fay of the Sun, that hash long wings indeed , reaching to the utmoft (+retch, endsor wings of the earth. The prophet Malachi comforts thofe that tear the Name of the Lord , with this prornife , The Sun of Bighteoufnefs [ball ari fe (to them) with healing in his wings. The Sun-beams, or the light that is conveyed in thofebeams, are com- pared to wings , and they are fpread to the very wings of the earth , and extend themfelves over the whole Henifphere. The morning light like lightning! is diffufed from Eaft to Weft in a moment: When it is day with one half of the world, 'cis night sé ith the other ; but where the Sun comes , it gives light all over that half-face cf the earth. The Sun is an univerfal benefit, and therefore the molt excellent outward benefit. We fay of every good thing, by howmuch 'cis the more common , communica- tive and extenve , by fomuch the better it is. As evil,by how much ir ipreadsit fell the further, by fo much the worfe iris; fo good , by howmuch the more it fpreads it felf , it is the better. As we natural light of the day, fo the fpiritual light of the Go- fpel, is very diffufive. When the Gofpel was firil preácht by the Apofilesof Chrifi (the day-fpring from onhigh then vifiting the world) O how ffseedily did that take hold of the ends of the earth 1 David (Pfal. 22. s7.) (peaking of the Prophetical Of- fice of Chrift , in fending forth the light of his truth, faith, All the ends of the earth fhail remember and turn to God, What cau- fed the ends of the earth to remember ? and what did they re- member ? Surely it was the light of the Gofpel takinghold of the ends of the earth , which caufed the ends of the earth to re* member God and themfelves ; they faw their danger and their duty, and fo turned to God. By the ends of the earth in that place of the Pfalm, we are to underftand the inhabitants of the utmoff parts of the earth ; whohadnever remembred themfelves , ne- ver con! dered themfelves , never awakened out of fin , never turned to.God, if the light of the Gofpel had not alined to them. Thenatural light is not onely very extenfive, buc powerful; and fo is the lightof the Gofpel,it goes to the ends ofthe earthwithwon- derful.
