Chap. 3E. 4n.Fxpofitionupon the Bookof J o a;. Verf. z2,. 177 numbred, and the years appointed which we have had and are to have here below. AEI as the days of our life, fo the conditi- on which we "(hall live in , refleth and dependeth upon the wif- dome and providenceof God. As we took no care of our (elves, nor could', before we were ; fo all the care we take for out f ives, whilewe are,can avail us nothing without God. which of res by taking care, can add one cubit to hasilature (Matth.6.z5.) and which of us by taking care, can add one moment CO his life , all is in the hand of God. And 'cis our duty to live as free from all troublefome cares while we are in the world, as we were free from any care at all before we carne into the world. It is e- nough that God bath undertaken for us, and would have us fit down in his careof us, Chrift Paid (Match. IO. 29, 3o.) with refpea to fufferings , Fear not , for are not twofparrows fold fora farthing? andoneef thew faldeth not to theground, without your Father. Itis God, whoorders and difpofeth the life of a filly bird , and by him the very hairs of our head (worthlefs excref- lions) are numbred ; furely then, the days of your lives, and all the changes of them , are ordered, difpofed, and numbred by him. And if fo , we fhould in this retire , be as quiet , and as much at cafe in our fpirits, concerning the things of this life, as we were before we lived. Light had its dwellingplace appoint- ed, and darknefs was difpofed of without anycare of ours ; and all our care canneither create lightfor us, nor remove any dark- nefs, that is upon us. Let us onelybecareful of that duty we are called to, and leave the burden of our cares to him whohath called for them (Pfal. 5 ç, za.) and would havens re( inthis afurance , that he careth for He ( Pet. g. 7.) what cannot he command for us inour places , who commands light and dark- nefs to their places ; therefore it will beour wifdome, at onceto cake as much pains, and as little careas we can.
