Secondly, Thepower of God is expreffed by the hand, which containeth all the fingers(Ifa. 59. r. ) Behold, the Lords hand is not fhortened that it cannot fave, that is, his power is not abated;. he path a long hand hill, his power co fave is as great as ever it was. The fame Prophet faith (Chap. 9. 17.) The handof the Lord is flretchedout gill, that is, his power is HI at work topu nifh impenitent (inners. How much and how long foever God bath punifhed liinners, he can punifh them longerand more; if they continue longer in fin, or fin more andmore. Thirdly, Wehave here in this Text, and in manyothers, the arm of God.( that's more than his hand ) fignifying the fullnefs of his power. Not that there are any real gradations in the power of God ; but there are gradations in the exertingand putting forth of his power. Sometimes God putteth förth his power ( as it were ) by a finger only,as Rehoboam laid (z Kings r 2.10.) My little finger (hall be thickerthan my Fathers loins ; that is, the leaf} that I will do in my government (hall be moreafflieìive and burdenfom to you (if you call it a burden) thanthe molt that my Father Sòloáoon did in Ms. At another time God putteth forth= his power byhis hand, you may fee his whole hand, that'is,fuller and clearer evidences of his power,inwhat he dothor bath done, that is,in his works of providence,, whether in breaking down or building up. Firft; For the fate guarding of his people; 'cis a proreeting arm. The arm of God with us fignifiethour fafety. The Pro- phet, fpeaking of the dealings of God with his ancient people, faith (Ifa. 63. r.2.) Ile led them by the right hand ofMoles with hie glorious arm; that is, his proteing arm, by which he laved that people from the wrath of Pharaoh in their fira advance out of egypt, and from the wrath of all their enemies, in all their ençampings and marches to Canaan, was very glorious.
