Chap. 40. An Expofition on the Book of J o B. Verf. 9. 553 of faceb. Nothing made him flrong, norto abide in arength, but the armof the mighty God. In this arm of God, the Church triumphed of old (hfal, 124. r, y, 3.) If it had not been the Lord, who mason ourfide, now may Ifrael fay, If it had not been the Lord, who was on our fide, when, men rote up againfl us, then they bad froallowed to up quick., when their wrath was knndled a- gainfi ut : Their wrath was kindled into a burning flame, yet we were not burnt, much lets utterly confucned, becaufe the wrong Godwas with us, or becaufe, as the Pfatm concludeth, Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth. What help can we need atany time, which he cannot give us, who made heaven and earth without any help or helper ? It isan impreg- nable Tower of comfort, that at what lofs foever we are, we may findhelp, or help is to be had in God. Thirdly, If God barbfuehamighty arm, Thenlet we truf him. We may trufl to his flrength; and when his farengrh is indeed trufled to, our trua is withdrawn fromall other flrengths. We may ufe the arm or flrengch of creatures, while we trufa in the arm or flrength of God ; but while we truff in the flrengthof God, we mull trufl in no flrength but his, nor, if we really trufa him, can we. When Senaehertb King of Affyrtab invaded pi- dab with a mighty Hofi, Hezekiab thus incouraged hispeople (a. (bran, 3z. 7, 8.) Beflrong and couragiont, be not afraid nor difmayed for the Dingof Affyria, nor for all the multitude that te with him,for therebe mot with us than with him ; with him is an armof fefh, but withus k the Lord our Ged to holp us, andto fight our barrels ; and the people rejied tbemfelves upon the words of He- zekiab King of fudah. They had an arm ; what arm ? not an arm of flefh (like Senacheribs) but the arm of the Lord for their help, and that carried the day. Created power is too flight to be ttufled;but the power of theCreator calls all for ourtrufl. We cannot trufl creatures too little (as to fuçce.fs) nor can we truf3 God too much. Hach anymanse arm like God ? A fourth.Inference may be this; If the Lordharkfueh anarm, fuckpower, This fbouldencore- rage us to the dutyof prayer. We are eafily perfwaded to leek to him for help, who bath B b b b arength
