Now faith God,Tread themdown in their place. le nlerbunho- 1 do fo , I destroy the wicked , when and where they think tentgm in I - themfelves fafeft, where they think no hand can touch them, no locofupera. nor arm reach them , there my foot !ball tread them down. O re, quia in eo job, canft thou do thus?or do thou thus, Tread down the wicked in minus habet their place. And as it followeth in the next verse ro the fame óanntib effeet. Vetter 3. Hide them in the dull together, and bind their faces infecret. That is , Bring them toutter de(}i uEtion , to condign punish- ment,even . todeath. Some expound hiding in the dufl,by laying in dungeons and filthy priions. Secondly, Others fay to hide in the dull, notes death, or to lay them in their graves. Du]? thou4rt (laid God to Adam , Gen. 3. 19.) and todaft thou fhalçreturn That is, thou (halt die, and be put in thy grave ; which pollìbly, is called , the dull of death (Pfal. 22. r 5.) Hide them in the dullof the earth , let them appear no more aboveground to trou- ble thee or others. Hide them in the daft Together. That is either , Fìrlt , All at a time. Thus the Lord cando , he candefiroy al ! the wicked at once , at onetime, in onehour. Or, Secondly, Together ; that is, in one place. God cangather the wicked all together, and fo make an end of them toge- ther, both as to time and place. Yet I conceive neither of these are here intended ; for God dothnot ufually destroy the wickedall at one time,nor all inone place ; he hath several times and stages to ae't his providences in and upon , fo that, to hide them in the dull together, is but this, tohide them alike, toput them all into the fame condition , at one time or other , inone place or other , that theymay be able todo no moremischief, and hind their faces infecret. That's the laic expreflion , (hewingwhat God doth , andwhat he bid fob do , Bind their faces in fecret. Theremaybe a two- fold interpretation of ihefe words ; either,
