All creatures put together arc but as the daft of the ballance, and as the drop of thebucket to God. Thus we fhould raife our felves, and wind up our hearts into a confideration of the greatnefs and Almìghtinefs of God, when we behold great andmighty creatures. The greatnefs of the creatures ,fhould be as a ladder to lift us up to God, and thereby to take meafure ( as we are able, or as well as we can, for indeedwe cannot) of his immenfurable greatnefs ; that's the right ufe of their greatnefs. And if by the fight and confideration of thefe creatures, we do not fall down and humble our felves, if we lyenot at the foot of God, who is infinitely above thefe creatures, and our felves too, weneglect the fcope of this Scripture, and of all Scriptures of like import. God is known (viaeminenti.e) by way of eminen- cy,in every creature, mofily in the moll eminent creatures, fuck as this, whofedefcription bath peen thus far opened. Now having had this high encomium of Behemoth from the Lords ownmouth, be is the chief of the ways of God ; what fol- lows, even this, that how great foever thiscreature is,God knows how to deal with him ; andGod would have fob underhand that alfo, that how great foever he had made him, he was able to match him, yea, to over-match him. Behemoth is no match foe God; For as it followeth in the clofe of this i9th verfe, He that made him, can make his Sword to approach unto bim. He that madehim. Thefe words are a periphrafi's, or a circumlocution of God. TheText doth not fay, Gokcanmake his Sword to approach unto him ; but He that made him can, cfrc.
