Why is man afraid or feized with a kind of horror, at the fight of a Toador Serpent? of a Bear or Lion bofe ? How comes it topals, that man, whom God made Lord over all the creatures, doth fear any, efpecially fo many of them ? Is not this a confequen t, yea, aneffc t offin ? When God made the Covenant with Noah (Gen, 9. 2.) God bleffed him and hiefont, andPaid unto them, befruitful and multi- ply, and replenifh the earth r and the fear of you, and the dread of you, !hallbe upon every beafi of the earth, and upon everyfowl of the air, upon all that moverh upon the earth, and upon all theRiles of the Sea ; thefear and dread of you fhall be upon them. 'Tis of the Lord that any of the creatures are afraid and Rand in awe of us ; we have deferved, that the very Sheep and Dove Ihonld bea terror to us. What is the reafbn why Kings and inferiour Magiftrates are fo terrible to evil men? is it not becaufe God bathplanted fuch a terriblenefs in them, or bath cloathed them (wirh his own garment) terrible majefly towards evil do- ers ? (Rom. 1 3. 3, 4.)Nove Ifay, if fore creatures are fo terri- ble, that a man is cat down at the fight of them, then how terrible isGod!
