Chap.41. an Expofition upon the Book of J o B. Werf. ts. 723 God would haveman knew theparts and powers of the ova- Whydoth the Lord in this book, fpeakat large ofthem, and of their powers, but that we may take notice of them, and under- hand them ? or that we fhould fearch and Ludy them? What the Pfalmifl fpeaks concerning the works of providence, is true of theLords works innature (Pfal. I 1 a. 2.) The works of the Lord aregreat. And (verf 4.) He bath made biswonderful works to be remembred; that is, that they fhould be fpoken of and memoriz'd. And thereforehaving laid at the beginning of the fecond verfe, The work¢ of the Lord are great, he adds in the doleof ir, Sought out of all them thatbave pleafure therein. His work is honourable and gloriouf, &c. The works of God are to be fearched to the bottom (though their bottom cannot be found) by all thole that have pleafure, anddelight either in God,or in his works;and they therefore fearch them our alto, becaufe they encreafe and better their knowledge of God the Creator, by encreafing and better ing their knowledge about the creature. From the whole verle we may infer, Pirt, If God will not conceal the parts, the power, and comli- nefs ofhis creatures then let not to conceal thepower, theglory, and the excellencyof God Yea, let us with heart and tongue declare the glòriousperfections of God, how holy, how jut, how wife, howmerciful, howpatient and long-fuffering a God he is. When God makes the creature known to us, he would much more have usknow himfelf, and make him known.Davids heart was let upon this duty (Pfill. 9. 14.) Thoubaf# liftedme up from the gates of death, that Imay (hew forth all thypraife,in thegates of the daugh- terof Sion. Asif he had laid, This, O Lord, was thydef gn in lifting me upfrom thegates of death , that is, from deadly dan- gers, or killing difeafes, that I might declare thy praife in Siens . gares, or, that I might declare how praife-worthy thou art to all who come into the gatesof Sian. And again (Ppd. 1[18. 17.) I pall not die,but live, anddeclare the works ofthe Lord. In the 40th Pfalm, which is a Prophecy of Chrit, he fpeaks in the words of the Text (verf, to.) I have not bid thy righteoufnefs within my beat t, I have declared thy faithfulnefs and thy titivation, I have not concealed tby loving kindne(s and thy truth from thegreat con- Zzzz z greration
