TheLord compareth the gaping jaws of Leviathan to doors, to vthich alfo the lips are compared in. Scripture (Pfal. I4 .3. ) Keep the door of my lips. As by a Metaphor our lips arc called doors, fo Leviathans jaws bear the fmilitude of a two-leav'd door ; which, who can open ? This feems to carry on the allu(ion to a home, whole mouth mull be opened beforehe can be bridled. Who can force Leviathan togape,that he may put a bridle intohis mouth ? That which is raid of him in the latter part of the verle, may make any one afraid to do fo, for His teeth are terrible round about, or terreur is round about his teeth. His teeth are not to be meddled with,they are fo terrible. As the holy Prophet faid to Pafhur,that falleProphet, Yb, name (hall Pet' gy,bm den- be called Magor Miffabib, terreur round about ( der. w. z.) So et' 'ens de the teethof the Leviathan are terrour round about. If any one rim hidemieron, come near him, he will fee reafon enough to be afraid. His teeth are terrible. Dread dwells round about his teeth ; and why fo ? why are his teeth fo terrible ? Surely, becaufe they are fo hurtful, he being able to tear anyman to pieces with, or to break a mans bones with his teeth. Hence note ; That is terrible to Ise, whichwe perceive hurtful tous. Now, if that be terrible, which we fee can hurt us ? let us remember how terrible theunfeen God is ! His teeth (as I may fay) are terrible round about. God loves to fave, but he can dcfiroy us, fooner than Leviathan can crufh -us, were we betweenhis teeth. Are the teeth of a Leviathan, or the teeth and paws of a Lion terrible ? is the fling of a Serpent, or the poifon of Afpes terrible ? how terrible then is
