Secondly, Our extra- ordinary repentance.Whenwe have fallen greatly,when we have finned extraordinary, or when the Lord brings any extraordinary judgment upon us, then the Lord expels extraordinary repen- tance : fuch was Davids repentance in the ç r . Pfalns, and fuch was fobs repentance here; as it was in general for fin, fo for Come extraordinary finful failings. Secondly, Confider what was fobs fin? fob was no vile per- fon, he had committed no grofs a6ts of wtckednefs. If you would know what fobs fin was, it was impatience under Gods dealings with him, and his difaruftfulnefs as to Gods delivering of him; yet even his were great fins. Hence note; Not only graft fans, murder, adultery, and the oppreffionofour neighboursare great fins ; but impatiency under the hand of God, and unwary fpeeches concerning the dealings of god with us, are great fins. Every great fin is not a grofs frn. Drunkenncfs, and fwearing, and adultery, andmurder, are grofs fins ; but impatience under affliaions andunbelief, not telling uponGod in an evil day, thefe are great fins, though not grofs (ins. Remember, not only are grofs fins great fins; but many fins,which appear not to the eye, nor to the ear, may yet be great fins, efpecially, as to the perfon that committeth them. Thirdly, note ; Not graft fins only, but flips of the tongue, and impatiency under Gods hand are to be repented of fobnot only acknowledged there to be fins, but repeoteth of thefe ; nor had he any other matter to repent of. When we are under fomegreat ficknefs,or any other afili6lion, as we are to re- pent of former fins, fo let us repent of our ficknefs and affli&ion- fins, that is of impatience, or any unwary fpeeches in our afflitti- on.
