Verf, 8, 885 derfìood, when he laid, jejue Cbrifi was the `reateff finner in the world; not that he had any fin in his nature,or any fin in his life;but because he had the fins of all that are or (hall be favcd, laid upon him ; as the Prophet fpakc (Ifa. 5 3. 6.) The Lord bath laid upon bim theinigwity of of all ; or (as our Margin bath it) He barb made the inigw+ty of ue all to meet on him. And there is no atone- mendor fin, but by a facrifice. So the Lord ordained the offering up of a whole burnt -offering for the takingaway of fin,that (inners might fee what they haddeferved, even to die; and not only fo, but to be wholly burnt and confumed in the fire of his wrath. Im- penitent (inners (hall be confumed in fire, that (hall never be ex- tinguifhed, nor ever extingui(h them ; they (hall abide in an e- ver-living death,or in anever -dying life.They who rea not upon the facrifice of Chrift, once offered, muff bea facrifice them- (elves, alwayes offered to the juflice and wrath of Cod. Here it may be qucftioned, why the Lord commanded them to offer (even Bullocks and leven Rams ? what could the blood of (even do more than the blood of one ? Ianfwer, Fir(( ; This being a great facrifice, pollibly the Lord commanded it, thereby to intimate the greatnefs of their fin. -Two things chiefly (hew the greatnefs of a fin.
