There is a twofold fubmiflion, which is the dutyof a Chrifli- an. Firfl, CO God (fame;.}. 7.) Secondly, to man; and this is twofold. Firfl, To thofe that are over us, and aboveus, in power (Row. a 3. i. Tit. 3. z) And thus aot only are fubjerîs to fubmit to Magiftrates ; but all Cif i lower degree, are to fubmit to their fu- periours, fervants to- their Mailers, wives to their Husbands, children to their parents. Secondly, There is a fubmitlion to thole that are wrongedby us ; and though they be our inferiours, yet (in thisfenle) weare to fubmit to them , that is, acknowledge that we have wronged them. The'Apoflle James intimates fuch s fubmiffion (Chap: 5. x6.) and the Apoflle Paul fpeaks it plainly (Eph. 5. s 1.) Sub- mitting your felve; to one another in the fear of God. Here is 'a mutual fubmifíion, a fubmißîon in cafe of wrong (and doubtlefs that rule of Scripture is extendible co other cafes) not only of equals one to another, but of fuperiours to inferiours. Our fpirits likenot this , we hardly fubmit to thole that we have wronged ; but there's no remedy, wemull. Some fay they will fubmitto God, bat they cannotfubmit to tnan,they cannot floop to' that. Let fuch remember, thatwithout this fubmitrion, even to an inferionr whom we have knowingly wronged, .or'are Made to know (which was the cafe here) that we have wronged, we cannot hopefully apply to God for peace and reconciliation. Eighthly, Obferve ; They that are wrongedk by others, mull forgive them their wrongs.
