Thirdly, Obierve ; The Lords commands muff be donear he commandeth them. We may dowhat the Lord commanded', yet not as he com- mandeth. The Lordscommands muff be done, as we fay toa hair, to a tittle, they mull be done exa!tly ; It is not enough to do what God commandeth, but according ashecommandeth. The Ar is remarkable. Not only muff we do good, but we muff do it in a good way, that is, in Gods way. Firff, The matter muff be ac- cording to his command. Secondly, The manner muff be ac- cording to his command ; and this a two-fold manner. Firff, the external manner muff be as the Lord hach commanded. David bringing home the Arke (2 Sam. 6. 3.) they carried it on a new Carr, when it fhould have been carryed upon the Levites fhould- ers ; that was a failing in the outward manner of that work. The in- ward manner of wor(hip is, Firff, That we worfhip in faith ; without faith it is iMpffihie to pleafe God (Heb. r r . 6.) If we havenot a juflifying faith, yea, if we have not a perfwading faith (Rom, r 4. 5, 2 3.) that what we do is according to the will of God, our worfhip is not according towhat the Lord bath commanded, and fo becomes fin to us. Secondly, That we wor(hip in love. Though we do never fo many holy fervices to the Lord, if we do them not in love to him, we fail in the inward manner of our worfhip.
