93© Chap.42. an Expofition upon theBook of J o s. Yeti*. abil cions. The Lord is ofonemind; who can turn him ? (Job 13. 13 .) But he is not alwayes of one way ; he repenteth, that is, he chang- eth his way fomtimcs, and fo he did towards job ; He once call himdown, and left hues a captivebound hand and foot under the power of Satan, as to his outward man and worldly enjoyments; but the Lord turned and repented, that is, turned his Captivity. This fenfe and reading is much infifled onby feveral Interpreters, and it is a comfortable truth ; yet I amnot fatisfied that is is the truth intended in this place. Secondly, Others who follow that tranflation, refer thisrepent tance to fob, and fo the fenfe is this,Tbe Lord turned at the repen. tance, or upon the repentanceof fob when be prayedforhisfriends; of which repentance we read in the former part of the Chapter. The Obfervation which naturally arifeth. from this interpretation, is clear from many ocher Texts ofScripture. When potions or Nations pray and depart from iniquity, when they joyn true repentance with prayer, the Lord turneth to them inmercy,.and turneth evil away from them, The Lord turned in mercy to, repenting 7ób, when.he.prayed for his friends. But I (hall not flay upon this ufcful poynt here, becaufe it is grounded upon a tranflation which is not ( as I conceive) foclearly groundedupon ,the Original as our own. tre Hrbr.eo eft Lord turned the Captivity of job. pulchra para- The Hebrew is very eleganr, He turned the turningor captivity nomafro, nova offob.
