The holy Evangelifi makes report (Luke 13. 16.) that Satan had bound a poor woman eighteen years, all that time he had her his prifoner; but JefusChriflin a moment made her free. Ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan bath bound, lo, theft eighteen years, be loafed from this bond on the Jab- bath day ? The devil, who had her in his power'eighteenyears, could not hold her a moment, when Jefus Chrifl would turn her captivity, and lode her from that bond. If theSon undertake to makeany free, whether from corporal or fpirirual bondage, they fhall not only be free indeed (ashe fpake, Tohn S. 36.) at the time when he is pleafed to do it,but he can do it at any time, in the fhortefl time, when he pleafeth. We find a like turnof capti- vity is defcribed (Pfal. re7. to, a i, 12 iii r4.) fuch as fit in darknefs, and in the íhadow of death, being bound in afjiiç`lion and iron, becaufe they rebelled againfi tht wordof the Llyd, &c. Thefe (verf. i3.) cryed unto the Lord in their trouble, and be [a- wed themout of ,tbeir difire,fifes: He brought them out of darknefs, and the íhadow of death, and brake their bands in [under. The fecond thing to be crnídered, is the feafon which the Lord took for the turningof robs captivity ; the Lord did it faith the text, when be prayed for hie friends. Some conceive the curb of his captivitywas jufl in his prayer time, and that even then his body was healed. I (hall have occr fion to fpeak further to that afterwards uponanother verfe. Thus much is clear, that when he prayed, That is, either in the very praying time, or prefently upon it, the Lord turned his captivity.
