So, he dyedan old man andfull, that is, he had lived as much as he defired to livehe hadhis fill oflivingwhen he dyed. And there- fore alto, it tnay be called a full age, becaufea godly man hath his fill of living, but a wicl"ed man ( let him live never fo long) is never full of dayes, never full of living ; he is as hungry and as thirfty (as a roan may (peak) after more time and dayes, whenhe is old, as he was when he was a child, fain he would live Rill ; He muff needs think it is good beinghere, who k :ores of no better being, or !Oath no hopes ofa better, It is a certain truth, He that bath not a tafteof eternity, can never befatisfied with time. There is muchcontroverte about the meaning of there words; The digref l ni would be too long to intlì upon them: Only to the prefent point thus much, that there is fuch a thing,as an infant of dayes, and an oldman that hatb not fill'd his dayes. An infant of dayes, may be taken for an old child, that is, anold man childifh,or a man of many years, but few abilities. A man whofehoary head and wrinkled face fpeakefourfcore, yet his foo- lifh ations, and ample carriage fpeak underfourteen. An oldman that bath not fill'dhis dayes, is conceived tobe the fame man, in a different charrfar. An old man fills not his dayes. Firft, When he fulfils not the duty, nor reaches the end for which he lived to old age ; That man who bath lived long, and done little, bath left empty daies,upän the recordof his life. And when you have Writ down the daies, the moneths, and years of his life, his ftorie.'s done, the refl of the book is but a continued Blank,, nothing to be remembred that he bath done, or nothing worth the remetn- brance. Now as an old.man fill's not his dayes, when he fatisfies not the expetation ofothers:Coin thefecond place his dayes are not fill'd, when hilown expedations'are notfatìsfìed,, that is, when he ha- ving, Ympij gmansvif afin vevJnt, ta- men nora in- plent diesfuot; quia fpem in rebset tempora- cire collocan- tes, perpetua vi tain hoc cundo perfrui vellent.
