And when he is hungry, his pay refrefhes him : while his hand is at work in the day, his heart is upon the wages he (hall receive at night. Hence the Lord in compallion to fervants made a gracious provifion for them by a law, Deut. 24. 14, 15. Thou fbalt not opprefr a hiredfervant, &c. at his day thoufhalt give him his hire, neither fhall the Sun go down upon it, for he ispoor and fetteth his heart upon it, left he cry aping thee to theLord, and it befin unto thee. job puts the inftance in both, As the hireling looks for the re. ward ofhis work, &c. He looketh. Theword fignifieth to expea a thing with an eye toward it ; what wecarneftly expec$, our eyes move after it. Da 11p vid in his waiting upon God, faith, Mine eyes are towards thee ; lifeup mine eyesand my heart to God ; The fame word is here Wed, The hireling looks For the reward ofhis work; So we translate it. The Hebrew is, He looks fer his work; t Why ? he had work before, he had his work allday long, his Ma- tier (hewed him-his work, he needed not look for that ; then his work is the rewardof his work: In the Scripture, the word work signifies three things.
