Secondly, Man is magnified or made great by the work of re- demption. That exalts man indeed. Man was made low, and his honour in the daft, notwithftàndiug all that greatnefs which he received in creation : Though Sun, and Moone, and Stars, the fifh ofthe Sea, and the fouls of theayrc, &c. were made his fervants, and himfclfa companion of Angels; yet by fin he fell below all thefe priviledges, and was made a companion for Devils, a citizen ofhell :Therefore the fecond magnifyngofman, was by the work of redemption. And, what was man that thou Jhouldejf redeem him, whenhe was a captive ? raife him tvheu he was downe, build and repair him when he was ruin'd, when he was loft fceke him, and when he was bankrupt and undone, give him a better flock and let him up again ? what was man that thou fhouldett doe all this for him ? Man is magnified or made great in the work of rege- neration, wherein Gods re-ftamps his Image upon him, in thofe finning charaf}ersofholinefs and knowledge ; The firft creation being fpoiled,occafion'd redemption, and redemption purchafed a fecond creation.
